What you need

  • Rolled socks, 6 pairs rolled
  • Laundry basket
  • Painter's tape (optional)

How to do it

Grown-up prep: Roll socks into balls. Put the basket against a wall and mark three throwing lines with tape or shoes.

  1. Roll your sock balls and count how many you have.
  2. Stretch your arms up high, then take three practice throws.
  3. Everyone throws from the close line first.
  4. The close line scores 1 point, the middle scores 2, and the far line 3.
Ask: Which line will you try?
  5. Now play a full round. Everyone throws once from each line.
  6. Try some trick shots: throw backwards, with your eyes closed or off the wall.
  7. For the last shot, everyone tries one throw from the far line.
  8. Cheer for the champion, then challenge someone new to a rematch!
Ask: Who should play in the next championship?

Play it again

  • Moving hoop: a grown-up walks slowly with the basket while you try to score.
  • Color shots: call a color before you throw, and only that color sock counts.
  • Beat the clock: how many baskets can you make in one minute?
