How to do it
Grown-up prep: Check that the bananas are very ripe and speckled with brown. Set out everything on the counter so kids can work on their own, and keep the oven for yourself.
- A grown-up preheats the oven to 350°F. A grown-up does this
- Peel the bananas and drop them in the bowl.
- Mash the bananas with a fork until no lumps remain.
- Pour in the oats and stir them in.
- Stir in your favorite extras, if you like.
- Scoop about twelve spoonfuls onto the lined tray.
- Press each mound a little flat.
- Bake at 350°F for 15 minutes, until the edges are golden. A grown-up does this
- Taste your cookies, then share them with someone! Ask: What did the banana do to the oats, and what would you add to your next batch?
Play it again
- Mix-in mystery: Each person picks a secret extra, then taste-test and guess who added what.
- Cookie shapes: Press the mounds into stars, hearts or letters before baking.
- Taste test: Make one plain batch and one with cinnamon, then vote on your favorite.
