Safety first
- Delivering cards: kids go with a grown-up outside the home
What you need
- Paper, 6 to 10 sheets of card stock or sturdy paper
- Crayons or markers, a handful of markers or crayons
- Envelopes, one per card (optional)
How to do it
Grown-up prep: Gather some card stock or sturdy paper, markers or crayons and a few envelopes if you have them. Clear a table so everyone has room to draw.
- Make a list of people who help our family all year. Ask: Who helps us that we hardly ever get to see?
- Pick your helpers and fold one card for each.
- Draw each helper doing their job on the front.
- Inside, write one sentence about a time they helped you. Ask: What is one time this helper made your day better?
- Sign your name and add a little doodle.
- Slide each card into an envelope and write the helper's name.
- Deliver your cards with a grown-up during Thanksgiving week. Ask for help if you need itAsk: How do you think they will feel when they read your card?
- Who else could get a thank-you card? How many helpers can you thank this year?
Play it again
- Secret helper: leave a card for someone without signing it and keep it a mystery.
- Helper of the month: pick one new helper each month and make them a card.
- Family card: everyone adds one drawing or sentence to the same big card.
