What you need

  • Berries, 6 to 8
  • Bananas, 1
  • Yogurt, 1/2 cup
  • Knife (adult use only), 1
  • Cutting board, 1
  • Plate or tray, 1
  • Spoon, 1
  • Zip-top bag, 1 (optional)

How to do it

Grown-up prep: Rinse-ready strawberries, one banana and a little yogurt. A grown-up handles the knife and any snipping.

  1. Wash your hands, then rinse the strawberries in the cool water.
  2. A grown-up cuts the green tops off the strawberries. A grown-up does this
  3. A grown-up slices the banana into thick coins. A grown-up does this
  4. Set the banana coins on the plate for Santa faces.
  5. Stand a strawberry point-up on each banana coin.
Ask: Do you think the strawberry hat will stand up or tip over?
  6. Spoon a yogurt band around the bottom of each hat.
  7. Add a tiny yogurt dot on top for the pom-pom.
Ask: Look at your Santas! Which one looks the jolliest?
  8. Arrange all your Santas in a circle on the plate.
  9. Eat your Santas right away, then make a plate for someone else!
Ask: Who would you like to make a Santa plate for next time, a friend, a grown-up or a guest?

Play it again

  • Santa race: see how many Santas you can build before a song ends.
  • Mystery Santa: close your eyes while a grown-up hides a pom-pom dot, then guess which hat is missing it.
  • Elf crew: make some hats with no yogurt band and call them elves helping Santa.
