Safety first
  • Stomping and flopping down could cause bumps or slips, so clear the play space of obstacles
  • Fast movement in a group may lead to collisions, so leave space between players

How to do it

Grown-up prep: Clear a roomy open space so everyone can wiggle and stomp safely. Pick the first skeleton leader, a grown-up is a great first choice.

  1. Pick one player to be the skeleton leader.
  2. Spread out so your bones have lots of room.
  3. Listen for the magic words: Skeleton says!
  4. Try the first bones: tap your skull and wiggle your ribs.
Ask: Can you find your ribs? How do they feel?
  5. Keep going! Shake your hip bones, bend your knee bones and clap your finger bones.
  6. Stomp your foot bones, then rattle all your bones!
  7. Now be tricky! Call a move without the magic words.
Ask: Did you catch the skeleton leader being sneaky?
  8. For the last round, rattle your bones super fast, then flop down still.
  9. Now swap leaders, or invite a friend! What new bone moves can you think up?
Ask: What is the silliest skeleton move you can invent?

Play it again

  • Slow-mo skeleton: do every move in super slow motion.
  • Silent skeleton: the leader acts out moves with no words and the cue is a big wink.
  • Animal bones: Skeleton says move like a bunny, a bear or a snake skeleton.
