Safety first
- Touch should stay gentle and only happen with the other person's comfort and consent
- Young children may need help understanding which shapes or letters are simple enough to guess
How to do it
Grown-up prep: No supplies needed. Pick a cozy spot to sit, like a rug or couch, with one person sitting in front of the other. Ask your child first if back drawing feels good, and offer palm drawing as an easy swap.
- Pick who is the Drawer and who is the Guesser first.
- Check that touch is okay, and agree on a stop signal.
- Guesser, close your eyes and take one slow breath.
- Drawer, use one fingertip to draw a simple shape slowly. Ask: What shape will you pick? Don't tell!
- Guesser, say what you think was drawn.
- Reveal the answer, then swap roles. Ask: Was it what you expected?
- Try letters and numbers once you've got the shapes down.
- Now invite someone new to play! What secret picture will you draw next? Ask: Who else would love to be the Guesser?
Play it again
- Two in a row: draw two shapes one after the other, and the Guesser names both in order.
- Secret word: draw a short word like CAT or SUN, one letter at a time.
- Palm mode: draw on the palm of the hand instead, with the same slow, soft fingertip.
