How to do it

Grown-up prep: Wedges take about 50 minutes from start to finish. You will do the oven and the knife work, kids do the rest. Check for any spice allergies or sensitivities before kids choose their blends.

  1. A grown-up preheats the oven to 425°F. A grown-up does this
  2. Scrub the potatoes clean under the tap.
  3. A grown-up cuts the potatoes into wedges. A grown-up does this
  4. Drizzle oil over the wedges and mix with clean hands.
  5. Invent your own seasoning blend from salt and two spices.
Ask: Which two spices do you think will taste best together, and why?
  6. Toss the wedges in your seasoning, then spread them on the tray.
  7. Bake at 425°F for 30 to 35 minutes, until golden and soft inside. A grown-up does this
Ask: What do you think will happen to the outsides of the wedges in the hot oven?
  8. Wait 5 minutes, then taste and score your seasoning.
  9. Now share them with your family, and plan a new blend for next time!
Ask: What would you change about your blend to make it even better?

Play it again

  • Blind taste test: close your eyes and guess which spices a friend used.
  • Blend battle: everyone makes a tray, then vote for the best recipe.
  • Dip it: make a quick yogurt or tomato dip to match your wedge seasoning.
