Quiet Stone Stacking
Here's one to try together!
Slow down with Ollie and build a wobbly, wonderful tower of smooth stones, one calm breath at a time.

Safety first
- falling stones could pinch fingers or land on toes
- only take stones from places where collecting is allowed
What you need
- Paper, 1 sheet (optional)
- Crayons or markers, a few (optional)
- Phone, 1 (optional)
- Basket, 1, or a bucket
How to do it
Grown-up prep: Check that stones may be collected where you are going, and pick a flat, steady spot away from walkways.
- Go on a stone hunt and collect 10 to 15 smooth stones.
- Find a flat spot on the ground or a table.
- Sort your stones from biggest to smallest.
- Place the biggest flat stone down first as your base.
- Hold the next stone and feel how heavy it is. Ask: Which stone feels heaviest? Which one do you think will balance best?
- Turn the stone until it sits still without rocking.
- Stack more stones one at a time, breathing slowly.
- Sit and look quietly at your finished tower for one minute. Ask: What do you notice about how your tower is standing up?
- Take a photo or draw your tower, then return the stones.
- Now try again, or invite a friend! How tall can your next tower be? Ask: What would you change to build an even taller tower next time?
Play it again
- Tiny tower: build the smallest stack you can with little pebbles.
- Partner build: take turns adding one stone each without talking.
- Stone gallery: build several towers and give each one a name.
