What you need

  • Plate or tray, 2
  • Crayons or markers, a handful
  • Kid scissors, 1 pair
  • Pencil, 1

How to do it

Grown-up prep: Set out 2 paper plates, crayons or markers, a pencil and scissors. That's the whole kitchen for this pie!

  1. Color the edge of one plate golden brown, like a crispy pie crust.
  2. Draw lines with a pencil to split your pie into eight slices.
  3. Cut along the pencil lines to make eight pie slices. Ask for help if you need it
  4. On each slice, draw or write one thing you are thankful for.
  5. Color each slice in yummy pie filling colors.
  6. Put your slices back together on the second plate.
  7. At the holiday meal, hand one pie slice to each guest.
  8. Let guests guess what your drawing means, then tell them.
  9. Now make a pie for someone else! What will your next slices say?

Play it again

  • Mystery slice: hide the drawing side down and let guests pick a slice at random to guess.
  • Family pie: give everyone at the table a blank slice to fill, then build one big shared pie.
  • Flavor swap: make a new pie each season with new colors and new thankful things.
