  • Crayons or markers

How to do it

Grown-up prep: Set out a flat surface, one sheet of paper and a handful of crayons or markers. Nothing else is needed.

  1. Fold your paper into six boxes.
  2. In box one, draw yourself waking up.
  3. In box two, draw a high point of your day.
Ask: What was the best moment so far?
  4. In box three, draw a problem that came up.
  5. In box four, draw how the problem got solved.
  6. In box five, draw a funny moment.
  7. In box six, draw bedtime.
Ask: How do you feel at the end of today?
  8. Add speech bubbles to your panels.
  9. Write a title across the top or on the back.
Ask: What would a book about today be called?
  10. Swap comics with a sibling or grown-up and read each other's day.

Play it again

  • Pet's eye view: draw your day as if you were your pet or a toy.
  • Tomorrow's comic: draw six panels of what you hope will happen tomorrow.
  • Mix-up swap: trade papers and draw a funny sixth panel for each other's comic.
