Safety first
- stapler can pinch fingers or staple skin
- staples are sharp
- some coupon jobs, such as making breakfast, may need adult supervision
What you need
- Paper, 3 sheets
- Crayons or markers, a handful of markers
- Stapler, 1 (optional)
- Yarn, 30 cm (12 in) (optional)
How to do it
Grown-up prep: Set out paper, markers, and the optional stapler and yarn on a clear table. Pick a person to surprise.
- Pick who your coupon book is for. Ask: Who would be extra happy to get a surprise? What would help them most?
- Fold all three sheets of paper in half.
- Stack the folded sheets and bind the fold.
- Write a different job promise on each page. Ask: What kind job could you really do? Tidy a room, set the table, or give a hug?
- Decorate every page with colorful drawings.
- Make a cover with the name of your person.
- Hand over the booklet as a surprise. Ask: How do you think they will feel when they open it?
- Do the job when a coupon comes back! Make another book for someone else. Ask: Who else could you surprise, and what jobs would you put in their book?
Play it again
- Family set: make one tiny coupon book for every person in your home.
- Thank-you version: write coupons that say thank you for something each person does.
- Mystery coupons: fold each page shut so the job stays a surprise until it is opened.
