Safety first
- scissors: cutting risk, adult should help young children
- crayons, markers or glue stick could be put in mouths by toddlers
- bare foot on paper requires adult supervision while tracing
What you need
- Paper, 1 sheet black or dark paper per person
- Paper, 1 sheet white paper per person
- Crayons or markers, a handful
- Kid scissors, 1 pair per cutter
- Glue stick, 1
- Paper, 1 folded card per person
How to do it
Grown-up prep: Gather the paper, crayons, scissors, glue stick and a folded card. Be ready to trace a bare foot and to help little ones cut.
- Spread your fingers wide and trace your hand on dark paper.
- Turn your hand a little and trace it again over the first one.
- Color a round body in the middle and give it two big eyes. Ask: Is your spider friendly or very grumpy?
- Sit down and let a grown-up trace your bare foot on white paper.
- Turn the heel end into a ghost's head, with two eyes and a round mouth. Ask: Is your ghost saying boo or wooooo?
- Cut out your spider and ghost along the lines. Ask for help if you need it
- Rub glue on the back and stick both shapes on the card.
- Open the card and write a silly spooky message inside.
- Now give your card to a friend, or make another spooky one! Ask: Who would love to get this card?
Play it again
- Spooky family: trace everyone's hands and feet to make a big spider and ghost family.
- Silly monsters: turn the foot into a monster and the hand into a creature with its own name.
- Costume swap: give your ghost a hat, bow tie or sunglasses before gluing it down.
