Here's one to try together!

Like musical chairs with fruit names: when your fruit is called, jump up and find a new seat before the player in the middle takes it!

Safety first
  • collisions and falls while running or swapping seats
  • tripping on chairs or cushions
  • chairs tipping or sliding if used for quick swaps

What you need

  • Pillows and cushions, 1 per player, minus 1
  • Pillows and cushions, a few extras for the edges (optional)

How to do it

Grown-up prep: Clear a roomy space away from sharp furniture and set cushions in a circle. Cushions are safer than chairs for fast swaps. Make sure everyone is in socks or shoes with grip.

  1. Clear the play space together.
  2. Make a circle with the cushions.
  3. Choose one player to stand in the middle.
  4. Give each seated player a fruit name.
  5. The middle player calls out a fruit.
Ask: Which fruit will you call first?
  6. Every called fruit gets up and finds a new seat.
  7. See who is left standing.
Ask: Who has no seat now, and which fruit will they call?
  8. Shout the all-fruit word!
  9. Now invite friends to join, or invent a new fruit! Who will call next?
Ask: What new fruit could you add to the basket?

Play it again

  • Slow motion: everyone swaps in giant slow steps like sleepy otters.
  • Tiptoe party: swap on tiptoes and try to be as quiet as a mouse.
  • Two fruits: the caller names two fruits at once, so listen for both.
