Feed the Laundry Basket Monster
Here's one to try together!
A hungry monster lives in the laundry basket, and it only eats toys from the floor. Can you feed it before the song ends?

Safety first
- Under 3s: pick up any small pieces yourself first. Anything that fits through a toilet paper tube is a choking size.
- Racing on a cluttered floor could cause tripping or slipping
- Tape and crayons should not be put in the mouth by toddlers
- Hard or heavy toys could bump other children when tossed into the basket
What you need
- Laundry basket, 1
- Paper, 2 sheets
- Painter's tape, a few strips
- Crayons or markers, a few
- Phone, 1 song
- Toys from the floor, soft toys, big blocks and cars
How to do it
Grown-up prep: Pick a room with a few toys on the floor and clear a safe path to the basket. Choose a favorite song to use as the timer.
- Draw two big googly eyes on a sheet of paper.
- Now draw a huge, hungry mouth on the other paper.
- Tape the eyes and mouth onto the side of the basket.
- Wake up the monster with a big, loud monster roar! Ask: What does your monster sound like when it is hungry?
- Look around and spot all the toys on the floor.
- Start the song and feed the monster one toy at a time! Ask: How many toys can you feed before the song stops?
- Listen closely, because the monster will tell you which toy it wants next.
- When the song ends, peek inside and count the toys.
- Now say goodnight to the monster. Can you feed it even more next time? Ask: Who else should we invite to feed the monster?
Play it again
- Color hunt: the monster only eats one color at a time, like all red toys first.
- Silent monster: whisper and tiptoe the toys in without waking it up.
- Two monsters: make a second face on another basket and race to see which one gets full first.
