Doorway Spider Web Toss
Here's one to try together!
Build a sticky web in the doorway and see how many paper bugs you can catch!
Reviewed by our team.
Safety first
- tripping while running or backing up to throwing line
- toddlers may put paper or tape in mouth
What you need
- Painter's tape, 1 roll
- Paper, about 10 sheets of scrap paper
How to do it
Grown-up prep: Stick the tape across the doorway in a zigzag with the sticky side facing out. Anchor each end on the doorframe with a small tab folded under, or tape to a spot you don't mind. Test a spot first, since tape can lift paint or finish.
- Crumple the scrap paper into small bug balls.
- Look at the sticky web in the doorway.
- Stand behind the throwing line with your bugs.
- Toss a paper bug at the web. Ask: Do you think it will stick or fall?
- Count how many bugs stuck to the web.
- Move the throwing line back and play another round. Ask: Is it harder or easier from farther away?
- Be hungry spiders and pull the bugs off the web.
- Now play again, or invite someone to beat your score! How far back can you go? Ask: Who should we ask to play next?
Play it again
- Color bugs: use crayons to make red and blue bugs, then catch only one color.
- Timed web: see how many bugs you can stick in 30 seconds.
- Spider swap: take turns being the spider who guards the web while others toss.
