Safety first
  • ball may bounce back or fly off toward people or a road
  • windows nearby could be broken by the ball
  • spinning and leg tricks risk tripping or falling
  • need a clear area free of obstacles

What you need

  • Paper, 1 sheet for the trick list (optional)
  • Ball, 1 tennis ball or soft bouncy ball

How to do it

Grown-up prep: Pick an outdoor wall with no windows nearby and make sure no road or people are within the ball's reach. Clear the ground of toys, rocks and anything to trip on.

  1. Walk to the wall and check the space around you.
  2. Stand one arm's length from the wall, ball in hand.
  3. Round ten: throw the ball at the wall and catch it ten times.
  4. Round nine: clap once before each catch, for nine throws.
  5. Round eight: let the ball bounce on the ground before each catch.
  6. Round seven: add a brand new trick of your choice.
  7. Keep counting down, adding a new trick each round.
  8. Reach round one and do your last trick catch!
  9. Now challenge a friend, or invent a trick of your own! Which trick will be the toughest to do?

Play it again

  • Partner relay: take turns, and swap whenever the ball is dropped.
  • Timer dash: see how fast you can finish the whole countdown.
  • Trick inventor: each round, a friend picks the trick for you.
