What you need

  • Non-slip rug or mat, 1

How to do it

Grown-up prep: Lay a non-slip rug or mat in a clear space with room to stretch arms wide.

  1. Stand on your mat and take three slow, snowy breaths.
  2. Grow into a tall Christmas tree, standing on one foot.
Ask: What helps you stay steady, looking at one spot or wobbling your arms?
  3. Shine like a star with feet and arms spread wide.
  4. Bend like a candy cane, leaning to one side, then the other.
  5. Become a reindeer and lift one back leg high.
  6. Curl up as a tiny present, then slowly unwrap and stretch out.
Ask: If you were a present, what surprise would be inside you?
  7. Lie down like sleeping Santa with hands on your belly.
  8. Put your poses in order to tell a Christmas Eve story.
  9. Teach your story to a friend, a grown-up or a grandparent!
Ask: Which pose will you add to make your next story even more magical?

Play it again

  • Ollie says: a caller names a pose and everyone does it only if the caller says "Ollie says" first.
  • Freeze music: dance to Christmas music, and when it stops, hold the pose someone shouts out.
  • Pose dice: number the six poses, roll a die and build a story in whatever order comes up.
